A non-European foreign student will have to multiply his fees by sixteen.
This is a major paradigm shift. Foreign students (outside the European Union), who until now could come to study in France at the same rate as the French, will soon pay much more.While a bachelor's degree now costs 170 euros per year, a master's degree 243 euros and a PhDs 380 euros, they will pay respectively 2,770 euros for the first and 3,770 euros for the other two, which represents about a third of the real cost of these formations.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on Monday, November 19."That means France will still subsidise two thirds of the cost of their studies," Philippe said. "And the fees will remain well below the €8,000 to €13,000 charged by the Dutch or the tens of thousands of pounds paid in Britain," he added.
Some of the extra revenue will be used to boost the number of scholarships offered by the foreign ministry.The government will triple the number of university scholarships from 7,000 to 21,000 and there will be 14,000 grants targeted mainly at students from developing countries. According to the government that means, along with the other grants already in place, one in four international students will qualify for a grant or scholarship.
